About Bella
I’m a final-year Modern Languages and Cultures student at Durham University, where I study French and Spanish. I have recently returned from my year abroad, during which I spent a term living and studying in Paris and several months in Madrid. Living abroad has given me the opportunity to develop my languages beyond the classroom and use them confidently in everyday life.
I have previous experience providing private language tuition to an A-Level student, as well as experience working as a gap-year assistant at a prep school, where I worked closely with children of different ages. These experiences have helped me develop a patient, encouraging and adaptable approach to working with students.
Having learnt French as a second language myself, I understand first-hand the challenges of learning a language and how rewarding it is to become confident enough to genuinely use it.
I’m friendly, patient and enthusiastic, and I’m happy to work with learners of different ages and abilities – whether that means introducing a younger student to French, helping with schoolwork or exams, or supporting an adult learning French for travel, conversation or personal interest.

My lessons are tailored to each student’s level, goals and learning style. I aim to make French enjoyable and approachable, combining clear explanations of grammar and vocabulary with practical speaking, listening and conversation practice to help students build confidence using the language.
Having learnt French as a second language myself, I understand the areas that English-speaking students often find difficult and can explain grammar and concepts from a learner’s perspective. I currently study French as part of my Modern Languages and Cultures degree at Durham University and recently spent a term living and studying in Paris as part of my year abroad, giving me experience using French both academically and in everyday life.
Lessons are typically one hour and are adapted to the individual student. I welcome learners of all ages and abilities, including children and younger students, GCSE and A-Level students, complete beginners and adults looking to improve their French for conversation, travel or personal interest.
For school students, lessons can focus on areas such as grammar, vocabulary, speaking, listening, reading, writing, homework support and exam preparation. For those learning outside school, lessons can be shaped around your personal goals and the French you are most interested in using.
Above all, I aim to create a relaxed and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and gaining confidence using French.
