About Laura
I'm a fourth-year student at Oxford University reading for a BA in Modern Languages and Literature. I tutor French, Spanish and English (language and literature), to students of all ages and abilities, as well as grammar and writing skills. I'm also equipped to give university personal statement advice and Oxbridge interview technique sessions.
I've loved my subjects throughout my academic career – they've allowed me to live and work abroad, to make friends all over the world, to discover new ways of thinking – so my goal is to pass on this enjoyment to others. Outside of academia, I run a theatre company which is touring nationally and I'm an avid reader of plays and novels!
I've taught students between the ages of 5 and 40 in the UK, France and Paraguay, as a private tutor, teaching assistant and classroom teacher. As such, I'm much practised at adapting my teaching style to students' needs/preferences.
In 2016 I completed a 160-hour TEFL course and I taught English and French full-time at a language school in southern Paraguay. There, I ran six English classes, ranging from level A1 to level C1, which all followed Cambridge English courses, and one large French class for which I prepared all the material independently. While living in Paris in 2017, I gave bi-weekly English language and literature classes to two French children alongside a translation internship.

Laura taught in our ESOL programme in Paraguay for the Santa Maria Education Fund (UK reg charity) from July to September 2015 and was the best teacher anyone could possibly hope for. Intelligent, willing, happy, imaginative, flexible and hard-working.
I’ve known Laura for a number of years through university and the theatre company we run together; I’ve heard about her teaching from her current and former students. Laura isn’t only an experienced teacher; she has the intelligence and perception that make her a true natural. It’s no surprise, given her empathetic and generous nature, that she has always been popular with her students. Nor, given her academic brilliance and thorough preparation, is it a surprise that she has always achieved exceptional results in the classroom. But the one-to-one setup of personal tutoring is, I think, where you will get Laura at her very best: to be given her full attention is to feel wholly valued and understood by somebody who sparkles with wit and understanding.
