About Krystal
I am a recent college graduate from the University of Michigan where I received my Bachelor of Science in Evolutionary Anthropology with High Honors and Linguistics. I also minored in Writing.
While at Michigan, I was the first author on two research projects and will continue scientific research in graduate school.
I have 2+ years of professional tutoring experience and 5+ years of informal tutoring experience. I am also experienced in science communication with children and the public and work with museums and museum collections to expose the general public to new and exciting scientific discoveries.
I am a highly passionate scientist and firmly believe everyone has the power to explore their curiosities if they are provided with the right learning environment. I also believe that asking questions about the world is one of the most -- if not the most -- important tools a human being has (which is a bold statement coming from a biological anthropologist). I am determined to help as many individuals as possible take advantage of our powerful mental capacities, regardless of where they are in their educational journey.

In my experience, genuine curiosity produces the best results. Unlike standard content-based tutors, I take things a step further and specialize in one-on-one lessons for the student. I like to start by understanding what they're passionate about- whether in the classroom or outside of it- and connect it to the natural world. I make these connections in various ways, through direct observation, educational podcasts and videos, or personal anecdotes. I am extremely passionate about the natural sciences and believe engaging with science can enrich ones' quality of life by giving us the power to marvel in the intricacies of the world around us.
My tutoring can be for students of all levels; as a college graduate, I am capable of assisting with introductory biology courses at the freshman or sophomore level. I typically work with students in elementary through high school, and I modify my lesson plans and approach to fit the student's needs.
I believe that my approach sets me apart from other tutors by not only improving a students' classroom performance, but also by improving their ability to meaningfully connect with learning and education.
