About Shanel
I am extremely passionate about the early years as I believe the foundation stage is the most pivotal. It prepares young learners for further learning, allows the development of inquisitiveness, a sense of autonomy, resilience and a love for learning.
In my most recent role as a PPA cover teacher at William Tyndale Primary School, my main responsibility was providing cover for teachers who had planning preparation assessment time, I taught a variety of subjects to a broad spectrum of age ranges. I was quick to adapt my teaching to suit the mental age of each child regardless of their year group, implementing challenge and offering support through modelling and demonstrating when necessary.
I am a very amicable, diligent, organised, warm and cooperative individual who always strives to create a calm environment conducive for learning through trial and error, developing and achieving. I believe that effective pedagogies build on pupils’ prior learning, and experience and involve scaffolding pupil learning.

I use a combination of systematic phonics schemes including Letter and Sounds and Read, Write, Ink when teaching succinct phonics sessions. A phonics session will typically run for 1 hour with 20 minutes on phonics learning, 30 minutes on written tasks i.e. letter formation and 10 minutes for spelling and phonics games. For maths, I adopt a maths mastery approach, a teaching and learning approach that aims for pupils to develop deep understanding of maths rather than being able to memorise key procedures or resort to rote learning.
Maths sessions will also run for 1 hour.
I have a Postgraduate Certificate in Education and a Undergraduate Degree in Psychology.
I teach early years and KS1, ages 4 - 6.
