About Kris
My music has featured on the BBC, in shows such as MasterChef, Chris Packham’s Nature’s weirdest events, on channels such as Canal+ and ITV and around the world. MaryAnne Hobbs twice played my tracks on her BBC radio 1 show. I've had releases on vinyl and digital, and played Ableton live sets in clubs in the UK and Spain. I play guitar and keyboards, but my electronica music has focused on using the DAW itself as an instrument, exploring how to use buses creatively, so the entire sequencer becomes a reactive being. We will explore these techniques using vocoders, resonators, reverb with sidechain compressors and ways to make your track sound reflexive and alive, learning sound design techniques that can be used across genres and applied to everything from techno or drum n bass to the soundtrack of a horror film. I have over 10 years of teaching experience, having completed the Cambridge Celta course, and spent years teaching in Spain in academies preparing students for exams as well as private tutoring and then later teaching online. I earned a 1st class Ba Hons degree in Digital Music and Sound Arts from the University of Brighton I look forward to helping you achieve your goals and awakening your full potential as a composer and producer.

I will teach you composition techniques, particularly relevant to dance music and film scores, we will look at production skills, learning how to use reductive EQing, as well as lessons focusing on the creative use of sidechain compression, diving into synthesisers and how to achieve the sound you want. We will concentrate on good workflow, looking at Ableton shortcuts and use of MIDI controllers, so you feel fluent and confident as you compose. I tailor each class to the student, and will analyse your own compositions and listen to your reference artists, to help you achieve the sound you are looking for. I studied Music tech at A level and then earned a 1st class BA hons degree in Digital Music and Sound Arts, at the University of Brighton so can help you with your coursework. I have experience playing live sets in clubs, and can show you how to create a session view Ableton set suitable for playing live, so you have a certain amount of pre-planned arrangements, and room for inspiration and spontaneity when playing live. We can also explore music for screen and media, as I have experience producing production library music featured in TV and trailers.
