About Gurjot
I’m a Grade 11 student who has always loved English and helping others learn it. I study advanced English in the IB program, which challenges me with deeper reading and writing, but I also know how to explain things in a simple, clear way. I volunteer with the Surrey Libraries Reading Buddies Program, where I work with younger students to build reading skills and confidence. Because I’m close in age, I understand what students are going through—and I know how to make learning feel supportive, encouraging, and fun.

Why Learn with Me?
English doesn't have to be boring. I like to try to make it enjoyable, since that's the way that I work best. I like to teach in a way that truly develops confidence with reading, writing, and grammar. I'd like to help younger students not just get the work done but also have fun learning so they may enjoy it and prosper in the future.
- That way it doesn't feel like a chore, but it feels like progress.
My Approach
I break down big jobs like essays and reading assignments and usually try to break things up into small bits, get them solid, and then smash them together. I mix in some brief warm-ups, simple skills practice, and review wrap-up so that each lesson is clear and structured. Along the way, I also give students real-life advice that they can use in class right away.
A Typical Lesson
Warm-up: A short game, writing, or reading exercise to start.
Main focus: Practice one skill (grammar, essays, creative writing, or reading/comprehension).
Practice: Actually apply the skill in a fun way (short passage, mini-essay, or creative exercise).
Wrap-up/Review: Think about what went well, build on successes, and set a quick goal for next time.
What Makes Me Different
I'm an 11th-grader myself who understands what younger students deal with because I've experienced it myself, but I'm also taking advanced English in the International Baccalaureate program. Upon that, I am a part of the Surrey Libraries Reading Buddies Program, where I help younger students advance their reading capabilities. That puts me in a position to give advice that really works—and not make the lessons too hard or boring.
Who I Teach
My sessions are perfect for elementary and early high school students who must become more proficient at reading, writing, grammar, and speaking their minds with confidence.
