About Malachi
I am a student of English Literature at the University of Manchester and a tutor with two years of experience.
I tutor primary and secondary school ages in English Literature and/or Language. This may include preparation for a specific exam (11+, SATs, GCSE, A-Level) or general reading and writing skills.
I make sure to encourage confidence in students as well as technical ability. For older students, I help develop a unique academic voice, which is favoured by examiners and also a widely applicable skill.
Ultimately, reading and writing should be fun and I would like to convince my students of this by encouraging them to interact with articles, essays, plays, and books in new and exciting ways.

11+ and primary school: focus on improving verbal reasoning, comprehension, and knowledge of English grammar. This will be achieved through practice questions and activities geared to the individual's weaknesses.
GCSE Language: focus on comprehension of fiction and non-fiction texts with a particular emphasis on literary techniques, which the student will practise applying through their own writing.
GCSE Literature and A-Level: focus on understanding texts as constructs which employ themes and devices to comment on different aspects of society. We will discuss texts together and then practise writing about them.
