About Rhys
I am a third year English Literature student with prior experience tutoring GCSE. I believe that a passion and skill for English is not some secret gift as schools often treat it, but instead an ability which can be honed with the right teaching tailored to the specific student. This is what I hope to achieve in my tutoring. I have achieved consistent firsts in every assessed piece I have completed in my degree so far and achieved the top grades in school, so I feel I understand how to construct an essay to the standards of an exam board.

In my lessons my primary focus is on areas the student has been told to improve my their class teacher. If this guidance has not been given then I will have them complete some past paper questions as a guide, as well as simply asking them what they feel they struggle with. I aim to balance this with detailed guidance on specific aspects of the assessments (e.g. structuring an essay, structuring points on the paragraph level, how to effectively use quotes, method of approaching the question/planning). I also incorporate at least one exam-style question in to every lesson to allow regular practice. I ensure all lessons are tailored to the student's exam board and that my feedback is constructive and accompanied by acknowledgements of what the student has done well.
