About Grace
Hi! I’m Grace, an English BA student at the University of Nottingham. I achieved a Grade 9 in GCSE English Literature and went on to study English Literature at A-Level where I achieved an A.
I’ve always loved English, particularly the way the same text can be interpreted in completely different ways. I want to teach because I know that English can sometimes feel difficult or subjective, especially when students have good ideas but aren’t sure how to turn them into a strong essay or exam response. I really enjoy helping students reach the point where things begin to click and they become more confident in their own interpretations and writing.
Having recently been through GCSE and A-Level English myself, I also understand the pressures of exams and what it’s like to be on the student side of the classroom. My aim is to make English feel less intimidating and help students develop skills and confidence that they can take into their exams independently.

My lessons are friendly, supportive and tailored to each student’s individual needs. I believe that confidence is a huge part of succeeding in English, so I aim to create a relaxed environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and developing their own ideas.
I adapt each lesson to the student’s current ability, goals and areas they find most challenging. Lessons can focus on anything from understanding texts and analysing quotations to improving essay structure, planning responses and developing exam technique. I also use practice questions, model answers and targeted feedback to help students understand exactly how they can improve.
Rather than simply giving students interpretations or answers to memorise, I encourage them to develop their own ideas and show them how to turn these into clear, well-supported arguments. I particularly focus on making essay writing and literary analysis feel manageable by breaking them down into simple steps that students can confidently apply independently.
Having recently completed GCSEs and A-Levels myself, I understand how overwhelming English exams can sometimes feel and aim to make lessons engaging, approachable and focused on genuine progress.
