Main Goal: Students will be able to call a medical office and schedule an appointment by phone.
1. Warm-Up (10 min)
Discuss:
Have you ever made a doctor's appointment?
How do you do it in your country?
Teach key vocabulary:
appointment
available
clinic
patient
2. Presentation read by me (10 min)
Read a model dialogue:
Receptionist: How may I help you?
Patient: I'd like to make an appointment.
Receptionist: What day works for you?
Patient: Do you have anything available on Thursday?
Review key phrases:
I'd like to make an appointment.
Are there any openings on...?
What times are available?
3. Practice (10 min)
Student complete sentences and practice the phrases with me.
4. Role Play (15 min)
Me = Receptionist
Student = Patient
Student use a schedule made by me to arrange an appointment.
5. Real-Life Task (10 min)
Student receive a scenario (toothache, physical exam, follow-up visit, etc.) and make an appointment through role-play with me.
6. Review (5 min)
Ask:
How do you make an appointment?
How do you ask about available times?
Correct errors and review key phrases.
Homework: Write a short conversation between a patient and a receptionist making an appointment.
