About Andrea
Hello! My name is Andrea, and I’ve been an English educator for over thirty years. I have coached students in many areas, including writing, reading, critical thinking, communication, literary interpretation, grammar, and more.
My approach to teaching and tutoring is to use humor and creativity, while holding students to a very high standard. I take a lot of time with students, encouraging them to perfect their skills in writing and reading, but in the spirit of healthy, friendly communications.
I always take care to preserve the student’s confidentiality and privacy. I believe that education is a family affair, and thus, parents need to be on board with what we’re doing during our sessions. Parents are welcome to ask questions, and of course, I’m always ready to offer updates on student progress. My goal is to see the student succeed and to grow in their skills, as those will help to lead them to a strong future, both in school and in the world.

In my 30+ years of education experience, I’ve always taken a personal approach with my students - while I love to approach learning with humor and creativity, I also challenge students with high standards.
My lessons stem both from what the student needs and what I can bring to the student. What are their needs? Their goals? Their struggles with writing and other areas of English/literature?
During our sessions, we’ll start with an update: how are things going? What is coming up in class? What are the assignments? What are the teacher’s standards and expectations, and what the student hopes to achieve in this class?
Next, we’ll take a look at the specific assignments that the student needs help with - I’ll assess where their shortcomings are and give them direction in how to address those issues.
The student, however, must do the work themselves, under my guidance and constant checking and rechecking of their work. The work the student produces in the end is entirely theirs - that way the student owns their own progress and truly grows as a reader, writer, and thinker.
