About Ian
I have a calm, warm nature and enjoy celebrating creativity and achievement. With twenty five years experience in teaching I understand that confidence and self-belief are key to success when writing creatively, developing literacy and analytical reading skills, and passing exams.
I am a qualified teacher of English with experience in a variety of school settings. I offer half hour and hour tutorials with the first half hour get-to-know-one-another session free. My lessons are for ages 11-16 and for creative writers of all ages.

Since no two people learn in the same way, I start by discussing what students feel are their strengths and areas they perceive need targetted work. Using these strengths as a base, I combine curriculum requirements, where appropriate, and tailored resources. Where a student feels the need of support, I offer to initially co-produce work, encouraging greater independence over time.
I strongly believe that assessment should be done alongside students so they have an understanding of the criteria being applied to their work. Most importantly, we will highlight and build on positive outcomes.
