About Rob
Hello! I’m Rob, and I have recently received a first-class honours degree in mathematics from The Open University. I have sixteen years of experience as a music teacher, and I now also teach maths as this is my other lifelong passion alongside music. Over the last twenty years, I have been a professional musician, music teacher, health clinician, personal trainer and workshop leader and have lived in Japan, Hong Kong and Spain. I also have a music degree from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and a Postgraduate Diploma from the Royal Academy of Music. I am an Associate Member of the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications and a student member of the Royal Statistical Society as well as a PVG Scheme member. I have qualifications in child safeguarding, health and safety and emergency first aid at work.
I am passionate about teaching and have worked in many schools and education hubs across the country over the last sixteen years. I currently work as a brass teacher at Loretto School and Cargilfield School here in Edinburgh. I also have several private maths students across all age groups and levels. I teach up to Advanced Higher level.
I have many years of valuable teaching experience that enables me to relate to and engage with students of all ages and backgrounds. Lessons are a relaxed and safe space where I try and bring out the best from my students. I work alongside my students, allowing them to progress with their mathematical ability at their own pace. However, I am always there to guide students in the right direction and to ensure full comprehension of the different mathematical techniques and concepts. It is my goal to pass my knowledge and understanding of mathematics down to the next generation engagingly and enjoyably.
