About Becky
Hi, I'm currently a PhD student in Contemporary French Literature at King's College London, and I am a passionate student and teacher of languages. I am a graduate of the University of Cambridge in Modern and Medieval Languages (French and Spanish; 2010-2014), and I completed a Master's in French Literature and Culture at King's College London (2014-2015). I then spent two years teaching English at the University of Nantes, France (2015-2017). I am experienced in tutoring and instructing, I qualified and worked as an Assistant Swimming Teacher at 16 and I also worked as a tennis assistant at my local tennis club. I then took a Gap Year, and became a qualified Skiing Instructor both in the British and Canadian systems, I am currently working towards my BASI III ISIA. My tutoring experience resides mainly in voluntary tutoring that I completed with Student Community Action Cambridge, working with two children who did not speak English as their first language, and with TeamUp Cambridge, tutoring a number of students in GCSE English Language and Literature. I also worked with TeamUp and SHINE mentoring during my Master's. At the University of Nantes, I taught undergraduate and postgraduate students at numerous faculties English as a foreign language. I covered topics such as literature, poetry, current affairs, legal and Business English, as well as subject- and industry-specific English related to sports science, dentistry, and pharmacy studies. I also fulfilled numerous administrative tasks and roles, and I was active in organising extra-curricular activities for the students such as English workshops and weekly film screenings. Through my diverse experience in tutoring and instructing, I have developed excellent interpersonal skills and patience. I am particularly good with quieter or less confident students who need to be brought out of their shells. My tutoring ethos is that I pay attention to the wishes of my students, helping them to achieve their goals. However, through instructing skiing in environments where safety and confidence are paramount, I have learnt to pay attention to the subtler aspects of my students, recognising when someone is struggling or feeling nervous. Through this attention to detail, I create calm and friendly teaching environments for my students. I am passionate about tutoring and the one-on-one aspect, I am excited about helping my students reach their full potential. Rebecca Rosenberg excelled in the position of Lectrice at the Université de Nantes in France. For the entire duration of her contract – which was renewed as a result of her outstanding work – Becky was responsible for preparing and delivering course material, assessing students, collating grades, invigilating examinations, organising student extra-curricular activities. She developed new initiatives and programmes for students, namely the Atelier d’anglais and increased student participation and attendance at events such as the Film Nights and the English Nights. Rebecca shows great leadership, work ethic and dedication to her students and colleagues both professionally and personally.
Rebecca was an asset to Team Up, displaying diligence, passion and excellent organisational skills throughout the course of her placement from Nov 2013 - March 2014.
