About Gabriella
I'm a third year scholarship PhD student and seminar tutor and a graduate with both an MA in Literary and Cultural Studies (Goldsmiths) and MSc in Global Criminology (Birkbeck). I have 8 years teaching experience, having worked in secondary schools in London for 3 years as a TA and intervention tutor for GCSE and A Level English students and as a private tutor for 11+ exams (most recently successfully helping a student to secure a place at Dulwich College). Additionally, I worked in schools in Paris for 3 years teaching English as a foreign language.
My students consistently reach their target grades and, better still, enjoy their lessons and learn to write coherently and think critically- skills which sustain them through their educational careers and later lives.
I'm very familiar with the current English Language, English Literature and French curriculum at GCSE and A Level and have taught Sociology and Psychology at A Level.
I currently teach first and third year BSc Criminal Law and Criminology students at Birkbeck College. My teaching style is adapted to suit the needs of each individual student and I have been successfully teaching online throughout the pandemic. I am an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and hold a postgraduate certificate in teaching and learning in higher education.

My teaching methodology is dependent upon identifying the strengths, weaknesses and learning styles. I have been tutoring online for both secondary school students (1-to1) and my degree level students since March 2020. I use a range of online tools- including PowerPoint presentations, shared worksheets and adding links to further sources- to ensure that students are engaged and learning effectively.
I prefer to be guided by individual students and have developed long-lasting and strong pedagogic relationships- I have been working with two of my current students from year 6 to year 10 (5 years) and year 5 to year 8 (3 years) and anticipate continuing our good work to at least GCSE level. I think it's highly important that students feel confident and work tirelessly with parents to put in place strategies to build this and to navigate any concerns student's may have.
