About Shamir
I am a language, culture and travel enthusiast with two postgraduate qualifications. These interests attracted me to the world of language education thirteen years ago. Since then, I have travelled and taught abroad, learned a lot about language pedagogy and have become an active researcher in applied linguistics. I am also passionate about ethical issues in world matters, and my teaching methodology is heavily influenced by critical thought processes about new developments in our world. I am known to be patient, tolerant and open to new perspectives.

A master's degree in education, thirteen years of teaching English to speakers of other languages at university level and active participation in academic research have taught me to design meaningful and authentic language learning experiences. Rather than just instruct the learner, I design learning sequences (with a process approach) that permit the learner to experience the language, make mistakes and learn from them, discover and use strategies to enhance their learning, critically think about language, culture and world matters, and utilise their receptive and productive skills in English to engage in effective communication. Of course, the learning is customised to meet individual needs; these are discussed at the beginning. I am patient and friendly and have a good track record of connecting with students. I also have significant experience in helping students write better in English. In fact, I have advised master's degree candidates writing their thesis.
