About Faris
I have studied and taught mathematics for a long time. I graduated in mathematics from Cambridge University in 2005, and have given tutorials in mathematics and computer science theory over ten years, while I continued to work and then study (an MSc and PhD in computer science). I have experience of teaching a broad age range in these subjects -- individual students from age 12 up to GCSE and A-level; groups of undergraduates and postgraduates; and also mature students and professionals. Having had a lot of research and teaching experience, I take a lot of joy in passing on knowledge, and look forward to helping you however I can.

I tailor each lesson to the student's needs, emphasising thinking over purely mechanical work. My goal is to guide students to a good understanding of the material, exploring the material together and explaining concepts in different ways, so that students can find a way of thinking that works for them, and adjust the pace of lessons. On the other hand, I help students to develop practical skills to work efficiently, and also the mindset needed to answer exam questions and perform at their best. Lastly, I often pick out practice questions and exercises from the student's textbooks as 'homework' if the student needs it, and keep notes to track each student's progress.
