Hello, I’m Dr. Matinzicio Edmondson, an experienced and passionate band director committed to helping students unlock their full musical potential. With over a decade of experience in music education, ensemble leadership, and performance coaching, I bring a structured, encouraging, and personalized approach to every lesson.
I specialize in woodwinds, brass, percussion, and ensemble preparation, guiding students from foundational skills to advanced performance techniques. As a dedicated band director and music educator, I, Dr. Matinzicio Edmondson, bring a structured, passionate, and student-centered approach to every lesson. My teaching method blends foundational technique with real-world performance experience to foster confident, capable musicians. I focus on individualized instruction, ensuring each student receives guidance tailored to their instrument, skill level, and personal goals.
Teaching Method & Techniques:
My approach combines traditional music education techniques—such as embouchure and posture training, rhythmic accuracy, tone development, and reading music notation—with creative strategies like call-and-response exercises, ensemble listening activities, and student-led warm-ups. I believe in teaching the “why” behind every musical concept to build deeper understanding and musicianship.
Typical Lesson Plan:
A typical session includes:
1. Warm-Up & Fundamentals – Breathing exercises, scales, articulation drills
2. Technique Building – Focused exercises for finger dexterity, embouchure, or stick control
3. Repertoire Practice – Solo work or ensemble excerpts, tailored to student needs
4. Musical Expression & Feedback – Working on dynamics, phrasing, and musicality
