About Logan
I have spent twelve years inspiring more than 440 students to explore the exciting frontier where biology meets computation. My academic background includes a doctoral degree in bioinformatics and research experience in genomics and computational biology laboratories. I have worked in academic research biotechnology companies and education giving me a comprehensive perspective on the skills required for modern biological careers. My students have entered doctoral programmes in bioinformatics joined genome centres and pursued careers in biotechnology data science and medicine. I am known for my interdisciplinary expertise my enthusiasm for data-driven biology and my ability to help biologists develop computational confidence. I maintain extensive computational resources datasets and tutorials that support student learning. Outside of teaching I contribute to open-source bioinformatics projects participate in genome analysis collaborations and enjoy hiking and nature photography. I believe that the future of biology is computational and I am passionate about preparing students to lead that future with strong foundations in both biological science and data analysis.

My biology teaching embraces the computational revolution in life science preparing students to work at the intersection of biology data science and technology. I teach bioinformatics through the analysis of DNA sequences protein structures and gene expression data using industry-standard tools and databases. Genomics is taught through the study of genome organisation sequencing technologies and the interpretation of genomic variation. Computational biology is introduced through the modelling of biological systems population genetics and phylogenetic analysis. I emphasise the programming and statistical skills required for modern biology teaching students to use Python R and bioinformatics pipelines. My lessons incorporate extensive use of real datasets from research projects public databases and clinical studies. For exam preparation I teach comprehensive biology content while developing students' ability to interpret bioinformatics outputs and understand the computational methods underlying modern biological research. I also guide students in developing coding skills for biology research data visualisation and the communication of complex results. My teaching is forward-looking and interdisciplinary reflecting the transformation of biology into a data-rich quantitative science.
