About Jonelle
I'm Jonelle, but my students call me Mrs. Mitchell. My husband and I currently live in Chicago, IL. I have been teaching for four years and I have tutored for eight years. I specialize in teaching reading, writing, and reading comprehension. I received my undergraduate degree from Texas State University in political science & writing, and my masters from Grand Canyon University in Education. I tutored throughout college and began teaching in 2019. I found joy in growing my students literacy and writing skills.

I create my lessons for students in first grade to twelfth grade. Before creating a customized educational plan for each student, I evaluate the level of reading, writing, and reading comprehension that the student is on. I use diagnostic assessments in order to evaluate those skills, then I create an educational plan that addresses the areas of deficit. I also focus on the learning style of each student. For example, if the student I am working with is a visual learner then I will incorporate many visual aids within the lesson plans. A typical lesson plan includes a bell ringer( an introductory exercise), a thirty minute lesson, and an exit ticket (a formative assessment that highlights how well a student masters the concept). An average lesson is forty five minutes to an hour long.
