About Marlon
Hello, I'm Marlon Turkson.
I am an experienced English teacher at MCS International High in Accra, trained in both the GES and Cambridge curricula. Over the years, I have helped JHS, SHS and Cambridge students move from struggling with English to writing with clarity and confidence and passing their BECE, WASSCE and IGCSE First Language English 0500 examinations.
Teaching is not just what I do, it is what I understand. I know why students lose marks, why grammar feels confusing, and why many people keep making the same small mistakes. My job is to make those mistakes disappear for good.
My students would describe me as witty, humorous and patient. I believe that when you laugh, you remember, and when you understand simply, you never forget. My classroom is calm, supportive and focused on results, never intimidating.

I'm Marlon Turkson, an English teacher at MCS International High. I'm GES and Cambridge curriculum-trained, with years of experience preparing students for BECE, WASSCE, and Cambridge Checkpoint & IGCSE First Language English 0500.
Students know me for being witty, humorous and a little sarcastic — but never confusing. I use humour to make the rule stick. You won't forget the difference between their/there/they're again because you'll remember the joke that taught it.
My techniques and methodology:
1. Diagnose Before We Teach: First lesson, I identify exactly where you lose marks — is it grammar, essay structure, summary, comprehension, or confidence?
2. The Common Mistake Method: I teach the things most people get wrong. We tackle one common error per session with simple explanations, real-life examples, and exam-style practice.
3. Simple, Not Shallow: I break down grammar like you're 10 years old, then build it back up to exam level. No boring lectures. Lots of writing, instant feedback, and corrections you actually understand.
4. Exam-Focused Practice: We work with past questions and mark schemes so you learn what examiners actually want.
Typical lesson length:
Standard lessons are 1 hour for JHS and 1.5 hours for SHS / IGCSE. For intensive exam prep and essay writing, I recommend 2 hours. I also offer 1-hour online catch-up sessions during the week.

• JHS Students (10-15 years): BECE English, grammar foundation, and confidence in writing • SHS Students (14-19 years): WASSCE English, essay, summary, and comprehension mastery • Cambridge Students (Year 7 - Year 11): Checkpoint and IGCSE 0500 First Language English and ESL • Adult Learners & Professionals: Business English, correct professional writing, interview and presentation English
