About Josh
Hi, I'm Josh! I'm a guitar teacher, professional gigging musician, and Master's student in Music Composition at King's College London.
I've been teaching students of all ages and abilities for several years, from complete beginners picking up the guitar for the first time to advanced players preparing for graded exams. I first began teaching at Guildford Rock School while studying for my A-Levels, developing my teaching skills alongside an excellent team of experienced instructors. before moving into freelance tuition and working with a vast range of ages and abilities. Many of my students have achieved distinctions in Rockschool and Trinity exams, while others have even gone on to win medals in international music competitions!
Alongside teaching, I'm an active performing and recording musician. I regularly perform across the UK with my rock band, and career highlights include playing GuilFest in consecutive years, recording in a studio owned by former touring members of Muse and Gorillaz, and having my music mixed and mastered at the world-famous Abbey Road Studios!

My goal as a teacher is simple: to help you become the guitarist you want to be while enjoying every step of the journey.
I believe the greatest progress comes from playing music you genuinely love. When you're excited about what you're learning, you're naturally more motivated to practise, challenge yourself and grow as a musician. My lessons are designed to help you build confidence, develop solid technique and, most importantly, enjoy playing the guitar.
Everyone has their own reason for picking up the instrument. You might want to learn your favourite songs, write your own music, improvise, develop your understanding of music theory, or all of the above! Whatever your goals are, I'll tailor each lesson to suit you while making sure you develop the essential fundamentals that every guitarist needs.
If you're a beginner, don't worry if you aren't sure what type of guitarist you want to be yet. We'll build a strong foundation by learning songs you enjoy, and can explore different styles as your confidence grows until you discover what inspires you most.
If you're already an intermediate or advanced player, we can focus on refining your technique in what you already play, or on pushing you beyond your comfort zone in more unfamiliar musical settings.
If you're working towards graded exams at any level, this can take precedent: I have years of experience teaching for Rockschool and Trinity exam boards and can design our lessons to ensure excellent results in any exams.
My lessons are relaxed, encouraging and tailored entirely to your pace. There is no rigid, one-size-fits-all curriculum—every student learns differently, and I believe lessons should reflect that.
Lessons are available online and typically last between 30 and 60 minutes. I'd love to help you achieve your musical goals, and I look forward to meeting you in your first lesson!
