About Joseph
Hello, My name is Joseph. I am an experienced piano and music theory teacher from Ireland. I have over 10 years teaching experience which is based on my education, having studied the Suzuki method, RIAM and the John Thompson's Modern Course for the piano. I have given many recitals and concerts in the last fifteen years. I currently have 28 students who are all at various ages and levels. I love to play the piano and enjoy everything music related, I am the organist and keyboard player for 4 choirs in the local area. I have a real passion for teaching and love to see my students develop over the years of their education. I look forward to welcoming new students and creating more music!

Piano Lessons for all ages and Levels. With over two decades of experience, I have adapted a unique approach to teaching piano based on my own past experience and education which can be tailored to each individual student depending on their level and purpose for playing whether it's working towards exams or just for fun! I teach students by ear or sight reading or both depending on what suits them best. I base my repertoire where appropriate on music that the student has an interest in as I believe that if you love the sound of a piece it will be much easier to learn. I believe that it is also important to teach students how to accompany any performance from classical music to church hymns, pop music to Irish traditional music. This skill will enable the student to join in and play pieces with others that they may not have heard before, allowing them to add chordal accompaniment to the performance without having to learn each piece individually. I feel it is imperative that students understand the music before they play it, helping them to identify what the composer's motives were when writing the piece, this allows the student to form their own opinion on the piece and enabling them to build on this using their own feelings about the piece. I will also help develop your piano playing skills teaching you a variety of different scales, arpeggios, ornaments and techniques. I feel it is paramount for the student to give their views on the pieces they are playing, allowing the student the opportunity to play sections or pieces that have been left open for the player's own interpretation to be played at whatever tone the student feels suitable. My approach I believe that everyone can and should learn the piano, not only to learn a new skill but to develop the mind, improving one's brain speed and memory. The piano is a brilliant instrument to help develop your musical education as it offers the student the opportunity to learn about melody and accompaniment, allowing you to clearly identify sharps, flats and naturals because of its linear layout, helping you learn the basics of music theory simply while also giving you the ability to play a vast range of notes from high to low. I use a broad variety of technical exercises to start each class and help get the fingers warmed up. I have prepared many students for their leaving cert and junior cert practical exams and as a H1 music student myself, I offer tuition and support in preparation for the written exam also. I offer both half hour (€15 beginner /€20 advanced ) and hour lessons (€30/€38).
