I am a highly experienced English teacher, Head of Department, and private tutor, specialising in KS3 and GCSE English Language and English Literature. With over six years of experience as a GCSE exam marker alongside six years of successful private tutoring, I have an in-depth understanding of the examination process and what examiners are looking for.
My lessons are carefully tailored to each student's individual needs, whether they require support in building confidence, strengthening core literacy skills, improving analytical writing, or achieving the highest GCSE grades. I have extensive experience teaching students of all abilities, from those needing additional support to high-achieving students aiming for Grades 8–9.
My teaching approach is engaging, supportive, and structured. I begin by identifying each student's strengths and areas for development before creating a personalised learning plan. Lessons combine clear explanations, guided practice, regular retrieval activities, model answers, and targeted feedback to ensure steady progress. I place a strong emphasis on developing exam technique, critical thinking, and independent writing skills, helping students gain both confidence and measurable improvements.
I have built a comprehensive bank of high-quality resources, including revision materials, practice questions, model responses, and exam-style activities, allowing me to adapt every lesson to suit different learning styles and goals.

Emily helped me achieve top grades in GCSE English Language and Literature by helping me develop independent analysis and creative writing skills. Initially, she led by example by demonstrating how to analyse different kinds of literature properly and write essays effectively. As I improved, she gradually encouraged me to develop my own ideas first and helped me channel them effectively, which is what I struggled with the most in English. She gave me constructive criticism on my independent work and gave me the knowledge and confidence I needed to achieve my potential in this subject.
I met Emily through my biology tutor, and I recommend her as she did a brilliant job teaching me English language for my GCSE! I struggled being in school full-time, and Emily did an amazing job at catching me up. We did our tuition sessions online on Teams, and there was barely any difference than doing it in person.
