About John
I am an experienced commercial lawyer, who has been working in banking and finance for over 10 years. I have an LLB (1st class Hon) and a BA.
I have worked at several Australian top-tier firms and also worked at the London office of a global US firm. I have also acted as senior lawyer in an Australian "Big 4" bank, assisting that bank to transition from existing credit-sensitive based funding towards the adoption of RFR-based rates. This has been a major project touching all aspects of lending businesses globally.
My current role is as Associate Director in the loan structuring team of an Australian "Big 4" Bank.

Having worked in both "pure" legal roles and also now in a more commercial role, I understand that concise and persuasive communication is key to a successful career in commercial law. I work with students to generate appropriate scaffolding onto which specific legal issues can be projected, resolved and communicated effectively. My key goal is to get students to a point where they don’t actually need tutoring.
I work hard to ensure students develop the appropriate framework to analyse legal issues, apply them to the relevant facts and reach concise and persuasive conclusions.
I can also assist students on request career guidance and mentoring and CV and application guidance.
A great thing about the practice of banking and finance law is that it requires you to understand and apply the law across traditional subject lines. These include:
• contract law;
• corporations law;
• equity/trusts;
• property law (particularly personal property securities law). I am an expert in the PPSA.
I am available to assist in tutoring on the subjects above on an ongoing (content) basis or to assist students with exam preparation.
Within permitted parameters, I am also happy to provide feedback on take-home exams, essays, and other assignments (including theses).
