About Anna Sofia
Hi! I am Anna Sofia, an experienced literacy tutor working with the Barton reading and spelling system who can work with children with multi-faceted challenges such as ADHD, memory and attention struggles, and dyslexia. I have been teaching students who struggle with literacy for several years and I have noticed one common thing between all my students: they are all bright have a thirst to learn and succeed. I turn all the misconceptions about people with learning disabilities or challenges on their head and instead meet the student where they are at, knowing that they are just as frustrated with not being able to "get" it as their teachers and parents are. While classroom teachers are focused on "catching students up", I help solidify the basics to ensure that every child is able to have a toolbox that they can use when presented with academic tasks. I work with the Barton system, a research and evidence-based program that provide amazing gains for phonemic awareness, reading, and spelling. Lastly, I too have my personal journey dealing with ADHD that allows me to connect with, teach, and learn from a neurodivergent perspective.

I follow the Barton reading and spelling system which is a scripted program designed to help children who face challenges with traditional learning methods, or who need specialized attention. Children of any age or level of reading may benefit from this program, but it was designed specifically for students who:
- Can't understand, mimic, or differentiate between sounds
- Can't connect letters to the sounds that they make
- Reverse letters and numbers when writing or reading
- Guess at words when reading
- Have poor comprehension of the material they do read
I am a FUN tutor who understands how children with learning disabilities may suffer from low self-esteem and trouble in a traditional learning setting. I offer laid-back sessions online and in-person that go by the student's own pace.
