I’m a teacher with a Master of Education and over 10 years of teaching experience in both Alberta and Ontario. I also have several years of tutoring experience, working one-on-one with students to build confidence, strengthen foundational skills, and support academic success. My tutoring approach is student-centered, supportive, and rooted in over a decade of classroom experience. I draw from evidence-based literacy practices and tailor each session to meet the unique needs of the learner. I believe that all students can thrive when they feel understood, supported, and engaged.
I begin by identifying the student's current skill level through informal assessments and conversations with both the student and parents. This helps me create a personalized learning plan that targets their specific areas for growth—particularly in reading comprehension, writing structure, vocabulary development, and foundational literacy skills.
A typical lesson includes a quick review of previous concepts, a focused mini-lesson on a specific skill (e.g., organizing a paragraph, decoding strategies, or grammar), followed by guided practice and independent application. I incorporate games, visuals, writing prompts, and real-world texts to keep learning meaningful and enjoyable.
What sets me apart is my dual background in both classroom teaching and one-on-one instruction, as well as my Diploma in Language and Literacy. I bring deep expertise in teaching writing and literacy at the and a calm, patient presence that helps students feel comfortable taking risks and making progress.
My lessons are ideal for any students who need support in literacy, reading, writing, or overall academic confidence.
