About Gloria
I am a Ph.D.-level educator and scientist with extensive experience teaching college-level science. I have taught microbiology, biology, anatomy and physiology, and public health, including both lecture and laboratory courses. I have also developed course materials, created tutoring resources, led microbiology group tutoring sessions, and supported students in online learning environments.
My academic background includes a Ph.D. in Public Health and master's degrees in Microbiology and Immunology and Data Science. In addition to teaching, I have spent many years working in scientific research, including clinical research and laboratory science. This combination of teaching and research experience allows me to bring real-world science into my lessons and help students understand how concepts are applied beyond the textbook.
I believe that students learn best when they feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. My goal is to create a supportive learning environment where difficult concepts are broken down into understandable pieces and students leave a lesson feeling more confident in their ability to learn science.

I take a student-centered approach to tutoring, focusing on helping students understand the “why” behind scientific concepts rather than simply memorizing facts. I break complex topics into manageable pieces, use real-world examples and visual explanations, and adjust my teaching style to meet each student’s learning needs.
A typical lesson begins by identifying the student’s goals and reviewing any challenging concepts. We then work through the material together using explanations, practice questions, and application-based examples. I encourage students to ask questions and explain concepts in their own words, which helps build both understanding and confidence. We finish by reviewing key takeaways and identifying anything that may need additional practice.
What sets me apart is my broad background in the biological sciences and my experience teaching subjects including microbiology, biology, anatomy, and immunology. I enjoy making challenging material easier to understand and connecting concepts across different areas of science. My goal is not only to help students succeed on an exam or assignment, but to help them develop a deeper understanding of the material and become more confident, independent learners.
My lessons are designed primarily for college and university students taking biology, microbiology, anatomy and physiology, immunology, and related life science courses. I can also work with advanced high school students who are preparing for college-level science coursework.
