About Richard
I am a practising multidisciplinary artist, designer and doctoral researcher in Fine Art, with an MA in Illustration and over 25 years of experience across art and the creative industries.
My practice includes contemporary art, illustration, drawing, photography, moving image, graphic design, printmaking and installation.
My lessons are relaxed, supportive and tailored to the individual. I can help students develop ideas, improve practical and visual skills, explore artists and contemporary practice, work through creative blocks, develop sketchbooks and portfolios, and prepare work for GCSE, A Level, university or personal projects.
I particularly enjoy helping students find their own creative voice rather than imposing a particular style or way of working. Lessons can include practical guidance, discussion of work in progress, constructive feedback, project development and support with research and contextual studies.
I am happy to work with beginners, school and college students, university students and adults returning to art or developing their own creative practice.

My lessons are relaxed, supportive and tailored to each student’s interests, experience and creative goals. I believe that art tuition should encourage curiosity and experimentation while helping students develop confidence in their own ideas and individual creative voice.
Sessions can include discussion and constructive feedback on work in progress, practical guidance, idea and project development, sketchbook and portfolio support, research and contextual studies, and exploration of contemporary artists and creative approaches. I can also support students with illustration, drawing, photography, moving image, printmaking, installation and interdisciplinary practice.
As a practising artist with an MA in Illustration and currently undertaking doctoral research in Fine Art, I bring both professional creative experience and current academic practice to my teaching.
Lessons are suitable for GCSE and A Level students, university students, portfolio applicants, adult learners and anyone wanting to develop their creative practice. Each session is shaped around what the individual student wants to achieve.
