About Pearl
I am passionate about instilling a lifelong love of music in children and adults, by making lessons a fun and interactive experience. I am a local piano teacher with twenty-three years’ experience playing piano. I am qualified in Grade 7 Piano with the Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM, UK, 2008) and have experience teaching people of all ages in the community, both online and face to face.

In lessons, I :
- Set goals with students and choose repertoire and activities based on what the student finds engaging and motivating.
- Tailor lessons to each individual’s needs, based on their learning styles, attention span, age and interests. When working with children, I ensure that there is a variety of tasks prepared to keep them focused.
- Introduce music theory in a practical and entertaining way. For example, in lessons we play games such as snap, utilising flash cards at the keyboard to learn about dynamics and note values.
- Provide stimulating online lessons, adapting new teaching strategies and resources to capitalise on the advantage of this platform.
- Identify areas that students find challenging and create activities using a variety of strategies to enhance their understanding of these concepts. For example, if a student is learning ¾ time, I play waltzes for them and practice the rhythm separately from the music, and I utilise percussion to teach different rhythmic styles.
