About Tom
I'm originally from Sheffield and moved to Manchester study Music at The University of Manchester. I graduated this summer with a 2:1, with First Class grades in all performances.
I began playing piano aged five, taking any opportunity to learn and perform. I attended musicianship and theory lessons at Leeds College of Music at the weekends, along with lessons at Sheffield Music Academy with Valentina Kalashnik, who revolutionised my approach to piano technique. Once at university I have tutored by concert pianist Duncan Glenday.
I have taught since the age of 18, with location dictated by where my restored Yamaha U1 lives. Now it has moved to be with me in Manchester, I am able to offer lessons here from Ladybarn.
I am fully insured, DBS checked, and a member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians

Music should be fun, from listening to it to practicing our next piece at home. I help cultivate an appreciation for the different styles of piano performance and believe an understanding of the music we play enhances our performances.
A foundation of good technique allows for great performances, quicker learning and tension free playing. Technique shouldn't be complicated and boring and with me, it isn't.
For children, I encourage parents to come at the end of lessons to hear the progress for themselves and make sure the pupils are proud of what they can achieve.
