My tutoring approach is anchored in fostering critical thinking and promoting question-oriented learning, tailored to unlock each student's potential while nurturing their innate curiosity about the world. I employ a blend of teaching techniques tailored to individual learning styles, incorporating direct instruction for foundational knowledge, interactive discussions to stimulate critical thinking, and practical applications to encourage real-world problem-solving. This strategy ensures that lessons are not only informative but also empower students to question, explore, and understand the subject matter deeply.
Typically, lessons last 60 minutes, though this can vary depending on the student's age, needs, and attention span. I strive to make each session dynamic and interactive, especially for younger learners, to maintain engagement and foster a love for learning.
Holding a Master of Science (MSc) in Marine Biology from Dalhousie University, I have developed a solid foundation in scientific principles, which I leverage to enhance my teaching and mentoring. My experience creating educational content for Ocean School has honed my ability to simplify complex concepts for elementary students, while my role as a Tutor with the Paper Tutoring Company has allowed me to apply these techniques across various age groups and subjects, fostering both academic and personal growth.
I am equipped to mentor a wide range of students: from young children developing their foundational knowledge and inquiry skills to older students advancing their understanding of biology and honing their critical thinking abilities.
