About Mary
They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Before we have the pleasure of getting acquainted, I’d like to personally paint you a picture of my hometown. The fresh breeze from Lake Ontario, eclectic shops and diverse residential suburbs. This is Toronto, the place I call home and the reason why my grandparents traveled halfway across the world in search of the Canadian dream. Growing up in a multicultural city like Toronto has enriched my life in more ways than I can ever describe. I’m so proud to be a Canadian and I feel grateful for the chance to share some of my experiences with you.
Before I decided to become an English teacher, I worked in the field of accounting and finance. My work was challenging but rewarding. It gave me a keen eye for detail which has really helped me notice small mistakes that others often overlook. Transitioning to a career in teaching English has provided me the opportunity to communicate on a more personal level. I feel empowered to help my students achieve their goals and I have the unique privilege of playing a pivotal role in their success.
Speaking of my students, they often ask me how I’m always smiling in every class. I wholeheartedly believe that laughter is the best medicine. With that said, if I were to describe myself in one word, it would be ‘optimistic’. My positive attitude can also be attributed to watching cute animal videos online :) When I’m not on the computer, you’ll find me cooking up a storm and expanding my Asian cuisine recipe book. I balance my love for food with physical activities like weightlifting, martial arts, bowling and volleyball.

I first began teaching English online in 2018. I strive to create a well-paced lesson that is both comfortable and fun. My teaching experience ranges from beginner to advanced. My work environment is clean and quiet and I stay up to date on the latest software and resources for teaching and learning.
My class is different because I plan on helping you understand and absorb English differently. Learning will be clear, simple, relevant, familiar, interesting and, most importantly, fun! All of my lessons follow a four step approach:
1. The creation of a goal at the beginning of each class. A goal will keep learning relevant and will allow you to measure your understanding.
2. The introduction of new vocabulary in context. I rely on familiar pictures, realia, demonstrations, miming and examples.
3. The use of controlled activities. We will practice until you become comfortable and familiar.
4. Putting it all together. Each class ends with an actual situation to connect your learning to the real world.
|| COURSE DESCRIPTION - SIX-LEVEL GENERAL ENGLISH COURSE ||
= Course Summary =
Whether you are a complete beginner or nearly fluent, this six-level general English course is suitable for anyone serious about progressing to the next level of study. The aim is to help you learn English more effectively and keep you motivated for success. Each level is divided into individual units that contain practical content, engaging texts, trendy topics and realistic activities. This course offers a perfect balance of vocabulary, grammar and language skills that provide the right level of challenge at every stage of your development. You'll receive all of the necessary resources and support on your entire language learning journey.
~ Levels: Beginner (CEFR: A1), Elementary (CEFR: A2), Pre-intermediate (CEFR: B1), Intermediate (CEFR: B1), Upper Intermediate (CEFR: B2), Advanced (CEFR: C1)
~ Class Time: 80 to 120 hours per level

Unit Opener
The main theme of each unit is presented through vivid images and thought provoking questions, which are designed to generate meaningful discussions and encourage critical thinking.
Vocabulary
New words are organized into practical groups like: jobs, home, travel, food, people, family, life lessons, technology, music, hobbies, leisure activities, culture, history and much more! Vocabulary is taught by working out meaning from context.
Skills Development
Every unit was created to achieve a balance of the four language skills, listening, speaking, reading and writing. A special emphasis is placed on listening and speaking. The aim is to make you feel comfortable expressing yourself confidently in all situations.
Everyday English
Each level provides plenty of opportunities to use English in everyday situations. Useful phrases and expressions are taught through social contexts that are authentic and realistic.
Speaking & Listening
Countless activities are designed to highlight challenging areas of the spoken language and encourage genuine communication. You may encounter sections that cover expressing doubt and certainty, fillers, making small talk, showing interest, exaggeration, being polite, sarcasm, idioms, surprise and much more.
Writing
The importance of developing a clear relationship between the reader and writer is a primary focus. You will be exposed to various language structures and different forms of text types like emails, narrative stories, letters, reports and more. Clear writing models are provided to help you analyze common features and further your understanding of the writing process stages.
Grammar
Small grammar spots are only placed in context so that they don’t detract from the overall flow of the lesson. Essential rules and bite-sized explanations of key structures help to create awareness of grammar without disrupting the natural acquisition of language.
Supplementary Material
Vocabulary exercises, reading texts and review sections accompany the main material to help reinforce the language presented in class and assist with self-study.
