About Harry
I'd be thrilled to utilize my training and experience in acting and dramatic literature to help students unlock their limitless potential as performers, readers, and artists.
I'm a working actor and theatre educator based in Philadelphia, PA. I graduated from Indiana University in 2009, with a Bachelor's Degree in Theatre and Drama, and have been working in the arts ever since.
I've worked with professional companies including: Azuka Theatre, The Lantern Theatre Company, Commonwealth Classics, Tiny Dynamite, and The Simpatico Theatre Project. I've taught in countless classrooms with The Lantern's Illumination Residency Program, and Delaware Shakespeare's Juvenile Justice Education Program.
My lessons take a text-based approach to performance, and follow the major tenets outlined by Stella Adler in her book: STELLA ADLER ON IBSEN, STRINDBERG, AND CHEKHOV.
I believe that my method of performance studies can imbue a remarkable sense of confidence in students, promote ease with public speaking, vastly improve reading comprehension, and encourage creativity.
I've been acting since I was a teenager, so I understand how thrilling the pursuit can be, and I wholeheartedly agree with Thornton Wilder when he says, "I regard the theatre as the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being."
I love the confidence and high self esteem that performance can instill in a new performer - people unearth abilities they never knew they had.
I've been teaching since 2011, through education programs offered by regional theatre companies, including: The Lantern Theatre Company, The Arden Theatre, and Delaware Shakespeare.
I graduated from Indiana University in 2009, with a Bachelor's Degree in Theatre and Drama and Film Studies.
I've been working professionally as an actor, educator, and theatre administrator ever since.

About the lesson

Each session will be one hour.
In our first session, we'll talk about what inspired you to pursue acting, your performance background and experience, your favorite performers, plays, films, etc. We'll then perform some basic exercises to break the ice, and get you comfortable with performing.
In our second session, I'll arrive with a monologue that suits your tastes and interests. We'll analyze the text, perform a "close read," work on character development, and, over three sessions or so, I'll essentially coach you toward "performance quality" of said monologue.
After we've mastered the monologue, I'll encourage you to research and choose a two character scene (from a list of plays that I'll provide) that you find interesting. I'll act as your scene partner, and, again, over the course of three sessions, we'll rehearse the scene together.
Throughout the course, we'll take a text-based approach to character and performance, and follow the tenets in STELLA ADLER ON IBSEN, STRINDBERG AND CHEKHOV.
Later lessons will include audition preparation, voice acting, and developing your own work.
Essentially, I want to help you become a more confident performer, speaker, and reader, and provide a rich understanding of dramatic text and realistic acting.
I've worked with a wide range of students. From Kindergarten to High School Seniors.
I would try to be very clear in terms of what you hope to gain from studying acting. If you want to learn more about the art of performance, dramatic literature, theatre history, the rehearsal process - that means you're serious about acting.
I recently coached a group of students performing Shakespearean monologues as part of an arts festival at their High School. Their performances were absolutely splendid - the teachers and students in the audience were mightily impressed, and the performers were thrilled. I couldn't have been prouder of them.
