About Justin
I am Deaf and I love to teach others my native language, American Sign Langauge. I have a canvas course set up for students to meet everyone's skill level. I can meet in person at a public place, over zoom, or if you prefer you can strictly use my canvas course and set up a time during my office hours to meet if needed. For in person classes, I sometimes co-teach with my wife who is also a very experienced teacher.
The world is becoming a global village, where there is an increasingly crucial need for all of us to understand one another. Making a difference, and helping people learn something which they genuinely want to know is very rewarding. I get to meet a host of different characters and personalities which I find very enjoyable.
I started teaching because I have a passion for sharing knowledge and helping others learn and grow. I believe education is a powerful tool that can empower individuals and transform lives. Teaching allows me to make a positive impact on students' lives and contribute to their personal and academic development. I find joy in witnessing the progress and success of my students as they overcome challenges and achieve their goals. Teaching also provides me with continuous learning opportunities and allows me to stay connected to the subject matter I am passionate about.
I am a native ASL user and I have taught for years in a variety of settings. I teach at a school for the Deaf, in the community and been a lab instructor at community colleges and univerities. I have a bachelors and masters degree in teaching. Out in the community, I also co-teach with my wife. She also has a bachelors and masters degree in teaching and has been teaching at a school for the Deaf since 2014.

I talk to the student about their experience with the language and their goals for leaning the language. We discuss the frequency of the learning sessions and set up a time to meet.
I have taught ASL to a wide range of students, from 3 years of age to 71 year old individuals. I have worked with both Deaf and hearing individuals.
I would advise anyone who is looking to hire a teacher to teach them ASL to make sure the teacher has experience, is fluent, uses the language daily, and is around Deaf individuals frequently. I would also advise the student to ask the teacher what makes them qualified to teach such as a license or certification.

The teachers are well-educated, and they know how to teach. That makes a big difference in the classroom! They teach and review. Reviewing is so important. They are continually checking in with their students instead of dumping vocabulary and moving on. The classroom activities are fun and enhance the learning. I cannot say enough about the class. I've learned more than I ever imagined.
Very knowledgeable instructors and very well organized.
The class is fun and we learn a lot every class. The teachers are professional teachers and it shows. I knew nothing at the start of class and feel I am progressing at a very good rate. Of course it helps if one does the homework and practices. Great class!

Details
I charge $25 per hour session. If you want access to the canvas course, it is $60 each unit. Each unit contains practice videos, worksheet/homework, and there is an ASL dictionary. If you are interested in what this looks like, we can set up a time to zoom. You will get one free session if you send us a referral and they complete their first session.
