About Tyler
I've been around the game of baseball for almost 22 years now. I am currently in my 17th season of playing, and 4th year of coaching.
As a catcher and corner outfielder, I played for 4 years at St. Patrick High School in Chicago, and then went on to play at Crown College in Minnesota. I am currently playing with a semi-pro club in Illinois. I have worked with professional scouts over the years as well as coaches that are with MLB organizations such as the Tampa Bay Rays.
In terms of coaching methods / philosophy : I don't ever yell or scream. I don't think that's an effective way to communicate with kids. I talk a lot. I like to explain everything in depth and make sure we are able to talk through something and understand concepts mentally before we get into working on it physically. Individual growth is all about honesty, positive reinforcement, and persistence. I focus a lot on mental toughness as well. Mentally weak athletes have short careers.
Making a difference in a kid's life, helping him develop a strong passion for the game of baseball, and seeing kids progress and become better players.
I started out just helping with my younger brothers team. As my playing career started to slow down due to injuries and other factors, I reached out to an old coach about a spot in his program. He hired me as a head coach right away. When my old high school coach found out I was coaching, he reached out to me as well and offered me a spot on his coaching staff at my alma mater.
I coach high school baseball and travel baseball. I work with kids every day. I coach every day. I myself am only 23 years old, so I'm pretty much still a kid myself. Being a young coach and being able to relate so easily with my players gives me a lot more credibility in their eyes and makes it easier to communicate without worrying about the fear factor young kids have with older coaches.

I will ask about what they think are their strengths and weaknesses and WHY. Before we get into anything, I talk about what kind of player they view themselves as, what are they looking to get out of the game of baseball, and why they play the game of baseball.
Once we get into baseball related drillwork I typically start with the basics. Whether it be catching, pitching, or hitting.. we will start with tee work, playing catch, etc. I need to see their foundation before offering any advice on what to tweak.
I have worked with students ages 11-19. Pitchers, catchers, and hitters. Players trying to make their local travel team, players prepping for high school tryouts, and even well established varsity starters just looking to sharpen their tools and get better at their jobs.
