About Sofia
For over 20 years I have been teaching Science, Biology, and Chemistry in a variety of Schools, in the US and currently in Costa Rica. I have worked as a tutor for 25 years. I enjoy teaching, but learning from my students is priceless.
I hold an Elementary Education Bachelor Degree, as well as a Science Secondary Education credential. I am a Biology IB teacher, and currently working on my Environmental Science IB credential. I truly believe STEAM education is something every student should experience, and every teacher should get ready for it.
Since I graduated from High School, I started tutoring elementary and high school students. I studied Veterinary Science, but I moved to another country so I had to start a new career. I chose Education as my second career, never stopped tutoring. Since then I have taught all levels from preschool to 12th year of High School. I have taught, all elementary subjects, Middle school Science, High School Biology and Chemistry.
Bachelor's Degree in Elementary and Secondary Education.

When working with a new student:
1. The first session (30 minutes) get to know the student, family, hobbies, sports, topics that he/she likes and dislikes.
2. Ways in which they feel they learn, and some assessment on learning styles.
3. Get to know their difficulties and things that they feel easy when learning.
Standard students, and students with special needs. In Costa Rica there is an all-inclusive policy, you work with the students that attend your class, and modify the curriculum to their needs.
Always listen to the advice, and apply what best suits you. Be clear and honest when you don´t understand, the more you ask, the better the teacher can help in the learning and growing process.
