About Jose
Hi there,
I recently moved back to Thousand Oaks for work and I'm looking to tutor students in Chemistry. I really enjoy teaching, I learned this about myself during graduate school, but I don't get to do it as much as I would like in my current job!
A bit about myself: I have a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from UCLA and currently work full-time at a local biotech company. During my graduate studies I worked as a teaching assistant (TA) for two years and I mentored three undergraduate students in the lab. Prior to that I worked as a Chemistry and Math tutor for high school and college students. I have a lot of experience teaching hard sciences in a clear way and I am confident I can help you reach your academic goals.

I like knowing I helped someone understand complex ideas by breaking them down to their simpler components. Watching students realize they truly are "smart enough" to understand Chemistry is really rewarding.
I first dicovered my passion for teaching while doing TA work at UCLA. I had the pleasure of teaching Organic Chemistry for Life-Science majors. A teaching component was (and still is) required for getting a Ph.D!
I have a B.S. in Chemistry and a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry. I also have experience teaching a class of 30+ undergraduates, as well as 1-on-1 tutoring experience.

When working with a new student I like to get a good understanding of what they understand and what they are struggling with. This helps me connect the new information to something they are more comfortable with in the hopes of helping the student retain the information longer.
I have worked with high school and college students.
I would advise students to think about how they feel after every tutoring session. Students should feel like they have a solid understanding of the material after every meeting.
