About Milla
I am a passionate partner dance instructor with experience in some unique styles, Blues and Fusion mainly. Blues is a black American vernacular improv dance that is danced to blues music. That means although there is a certain style for the dance, it's all lead and followed in the moment so there is no choreography. It's about learning how to feel and communicate through a partnership to make amazing moves happen together, on the spot to the music you're hearing! Fusion is similar in terms of improvisation, but draws from many different dance forms and is danced to more modern, electronic music! I've been partner dancing for many years and have been to events all over the country (CO, NY, NC, SC, OR, etc) to learn from amazing instructors like Julie Brown, Kelly Howard, Mark Carpenter, and Laura Chieko. I've travelled all over the country to teach as well, most recently to Colorado for a teen partner dance intensive! I've also taught workshops in GA, OR, CO, NJ, NY in different styles to varying skill levels. Partner dance is my passion and I'd love to share it with you too! Here are some things you can expect to learn from private lessons with me:
-How to find the rhythm &I connect with the music
-How to lead/follow movement, turns, dips, and stylizations effectively
-How to communicate within a partnership
-Finding your personal groove and discovering how to translate that into a partnership
-Some history/cultural significance of the dances we are dancing
Everything! I love connecting with my students and sharing a skill that gives me so much joy with them. I especially love working with people who have never done partner dance before and getting to watch them open up and improve so much is truly special. A goal of mine is for partner dance to become a more common hobby and specifically for children/teens to get the chance to do it too! Cocreating a beautiful dance is a wonderful form of connection with someone else and I think it would do the world well to not limit that to people who are over 18. For that reason, I encourage teens who are interested to reach out and know there is most definitely a space for you here!
As my expertise is social dance, most of my education has been just that! I travelled all over for social dances to improve my dance vocabulary, most notably the Raleigh, Charleston, and Miami dance scenes. Then, I started taking workshops and lessons at larger events, like Snowbound Blues and Mile High Blues, which helped me understand lots of the mechanics behind what I had been doing. I did a program for a year in Colorado with one of the focuses being partner dance and there I learned how to effectively lead as well as follow and started teaching as well.

I have worked with people in lots of age groups. I used to run a social Blues dancing group in Savannah, Studio Blues, where I taught people ages 20-50, all beginners. I recently taught a teen dance intensive where I worked with students from 15 up which was a really wonderful experience. Most of the students I work with are in the beginner range, occasionally more experienced but only know how to dance one role (lead or follow).

Milla is an amazing dancer and a patient, skilled, and fun teacher. She has a fantastic ability to put herself in your shoes and work through moves with exactly to pace and teaching style you need to really feel the flow of the dance.
