About Don
My goal is to tailor a dance course designed for each individuals need, and aspirations. I believe that dancing should be fun and liberating. I don't believe in doing a lot of boring school figures out of context. Instead, I believe that we learn dancing by dancing. You will be dancing to music on your very first lesson.
I have been active in the dance community for over 55 years; in competitive dancing over 15 years; and teaching for over 10 years. I especially like private lessons as you get concentration instruction without interruption. Your best dancing bargain is private lessons.
I have been Overall Platinum Champion in country western dance competitions, won at showcase tango contest, and won numerous contest with my pro partners, as well as, with my students.
I have taught country western, both group and private; taught full semester tango dance class at New Mexico Tech; taught line dancing group classes; and a weekly dance program for the City of Socorro.
You will find my teaching to be fun, lively, interactive, with a ton of dance tips and techniques.
I love seeing the joy on my students faces as they accomplish things that they didn't think possible. There are few shortcuts to happiness, ... dancing is one of them. That is what I share.

I learned dancing by taking lessons from every pro that I could find. I entered dance competitions, win, lose, or draw. I went to every dance venue that I could find and danced with as many partners as I could to refine my leading techniques. I then started assisting my pro partners in their dance lessons and then started giving private lessons. Later on, I gave group lessons, however, I found that unrewarding for me, as I wasn't able to devote the individual attention that each student deserved, so I primarily focus on private lessons.

We start out by discussing the students goals and what they want to achieve by taking lessons. I believe that we learn to dance by dancing, so there will not be a log of boring school figures. You will be dancing to music on the first lesson. We learn by making mistakes, so relax and don't be worried about making a mistake ... you will learn something!
Primarily with beginning women and couples.
Look for someone that focuses on you and your goals. The teachers ego is irrelevant.
Look for someone that makes dancing fun, not a dread.
You need shoe leather on the floor not lectures.
You need someone that you like and look forward to each lesson.
Regional country western dance contest in Albuquerque. I entered with my pro partner and we won overall Platinum Trophy for five dances.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What is it that you want leave with: self-confidence, graceful movements, no fear of the dance floor or being asked to dance by a stranger. Dancing is social. Dancing is healthful. Dancing is inner joy.
