About Michelle
Hey, I'm Michelle!
I'm a designer, comic maker and visual artist with over 5 years of professional industry experience. I've provided services for radio stations, media, fashion, and e-learning companies and I've been a painting instructor for a paint and sip company based in Perth Western Australia. I am super creative and possess an incredibly versatile skill set and I absolutely love sharing my knowledge with others!
I have a bachelor's degree in Digital Design from the University of Western Australia. I am a self-published author of an array of comics that are on digital platforms such as Tapas.com and Webtoon.com!
I was a painting instructor for an entertainment company called Cabernet and Canvas in Perth Western Australia for 3 years.

1) LEARNING THE STUDENTS INTERESTS: I love to get to know a bit about my students first! I like to help them to first figure out and write down any specific goals that they want to achieve from my lessons, (e.g. do they want to draw a photorealistic image, sculpt an abstract form, create a mask, tell a story through sequential art, etc.) identify their favorite interests, and topics so that we can use those ideas as fuel for creative exploration. Then they will decide their preferred mediums such as the art of painting, watercolor, drawing, paper-craft, sculpture with paper-clay or papermashay and plaster of Paris casts etc.
2) DEVELOPING A VISUAL LIBRARY: Once my student has written down some ideas of things that are meaningful for them to explore, we do a little bit of visual research, sometimes using the internet to find photographs that are relevant to the individual's interests. If the student has already got a collection of images from scrapbooking, this is very helpful to identify topics that they would like to use as creative inspiration. If they do not yet have any ideas, I will get them to build a collage of images like this which helps them to start developing their internal visual library.
3) TOP-DOWN APPROACH: Based on photos (preferably based off of reality rather than cartoon images) we will use the images to begin exploring how to capture form utilizing the "top-down" technique moving gradually down the steps of capturing form first focusing on positioning, then to gesture, proportions, large details to fine details.
4) FINESSING THE PROJECT: This stage is about thinking critically about the work, what needs to be added, finding the desired final touches to be able to see it as completed.
5) REFLECTION ON THE ARTWORK: In this stage I allow the student to be reasonably critical of their work, to ask themselves whether they achieved their desired outcome and if not, what it is that they thought could have been done better.
6) ACCEPT THE ARTWORK: In this final stage, I encourage the student to feel proud of their art, even if they are not entirely satisfied with it, as this is an opportunity to accept that the individual is developing those skills and that it is okay to know that their creative skills will forever be an evolving work of progress and an outlet for their personal emotions and experiences as they continue through the cycles of life and learning.
