About Janet
Lessons are a total of one hour with 10 to 20 minutes of introduction, outline of lesson, and demonstration. You can ask and get feedback and clarification at anytime.
My fee $5 for first intro lesson. After that, $30 per hour. If you pay by the month, a discount is applied. The fee averages $100. A course is $250 not to exceed nine weeks. Supplies may be purchased by student from a vendor or me. I give a specific supply list for each lesson/course It is not necessary to buy everything.
Includes preparation, supply costs (if necessary), instruction, monitoring your progress, feedback and assessment. We may not do a complete lesson each time. I am willing to provide a sliding scale based on your ability to pay because of COVID. I use all safety and health precautions and expect the same.
What is your budget for one lesson per week? Do you have available time for weekly practice alone. Where or how are you getting your academic or technical training currently? Do you have supplies or should I furnish them? Do you have transportation.?
Respond when you can, and I will be more than happy to work with you. I have resources, teaching experience, patience and a good heart.
COVID requirement: I use live video for the format right now so there is no transportation involved.
Individual instruction.
Interest and ability to attend art school while working in industry. Soon after I started investigating a teaching career. Saw a productive career pathway for my situation and interest. I was 24 years old when I student taught, and I was hooked! Moved forward with a plan to get another degree and more education and that was nearly 50 years ago! Worked hard, raised three daughters, divorced and continued on. My education and skills are my salvation. Let me help more students. I can.
Self- taught until age 20, then began formal classes too many to mention. Graduate degrees and certifications in teaching and administration. Currently an artist teaching children drawing, water color, acrylic and abstract art. Teach painting to adults in an individual setting upon request. Drawing is the basis for all of my techniques except abstract. Abstract is based on what colors the client prefers or is suggested. I guarantee a satisfied outcome in any technique because I listen to the learner and carefully observe the strengths and skills attained throughout.

I Taught Them All
I have taught high school for ten years. During that time I have given assignments, among others, to a murderer, a street-smart fighter, and a thief.
The murderer was a quiet little boy who sat on the front seat and regarded me with pale blue eyes.
The fighter lounged by the window and let loose at intervals in a raucous laugh that startled even the geraniums.
And the thief was a gay-hearted Lothario with a song on his lips.
The murderer awaits death in the state penitentiary; the pugilist lost an eye in a brawl in Hong Kong; and the thief, by standing on tip-toe, can see the window of my room from the county jail.
All these pupils once sat in my room,… sat and looked at me gravely across worn brown desks.
I must have been a great help to those pupils.
For you see …
I taught them the rhyming scheme of the Elizabethan sonnet and how to diagram a complex sentence.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
"Will you get to know me? Will you remember me? Will you give up on me because l'm (difficult, handicapped, look different than you, an expert, an illiterate, scared) whatever the student may say." A teacher doesn't give up.
