About Kim
I started teaching classes out of my studio in 2019. I have a beautiful 17 x 40 studio space above our detached garage. It is my Art Barn Studio. I can comfortably hold up to 12 students of all ages. I feel comfortable doing all media. If you are interested in creating art, finding your passion, or just wanting to have a evening with friends playing with materials and socializing come to the art barn or simply ask, I can come to you.

I have experience in many areas in the visual arts. I have have a passion for teaching and helping others achieve their artistic goals. I truly enjoy seeing the a-ha moments, when it all clicks for the first time. I see myself more as a coach. I'm not an not an experct in any one area but I feel confident in my teaching abilities and know I can help you reach your goals. I can help you explore your creativity. Don't be afraid to try new things! Part of the joy is exploring the media and finding your passion. Art making is about the process, be kid again and enjoy the journey.
I started out as a graphic designer back in 1996 and after working in the field for 4 years, I decided to go back to school to earn my teaching degree. I have been teaching all grade levels for 20+ years. Teaching is in my soul. I find myself always searching for new projects. My photo library is intense as are my Pinterest boards.
A little background about myself. I was a graphic designer and a florist prior to teaching. I majored in art with a printmanking emphasis and minored in graphic design from the University of Green Bay. I earned my masters degree from Lesley University. I taught elementary - high school in the Appleton area from 2000-2020. I am currently teaching for the Xavier grades K-5. I have taught in many places during the summer including Shell Lake Art Camp, The Art Garage, Bergstrom Art Center, Trout Art Gallery, Letter Create Studio, and the Wild Apple Art Studio.
My husband Brian and I don't have children but we do have 3 cats and a dog. We truly enjoy being out in nature hiking, dirtbiking, snowmobiling etc. and when we have time we love...to travel. I feel my life experiences, traveling the world and being out in nature has given me the ability to see and feel things differently. I use this to better understand who I am as a person/artist and how these experiences reflect in my art.

About the lesson

I start each class with an introduction. We get to know a little more about one another. I want to find out what your goals are. I then introduce the materials and go over the lesson. I will break longer lessons into mini lessons so the learner does not become overwhelmed by the next step. Once, I complete the demo students are free to work on their own. I will be there for guidance. If someone wants more step by step, one on one instruction, I can do that as well. I will have snacks and beverages for breaks.
I have worked with children of all ages from 5 and up.
I am able to adjust my lessons for those with special needs.
I also work with adults and seniors.
Please note my studio is not handicap accessible. If need be we can work out of my home. I have a large kitchen area and a beautiful patio space that is accessible in summer.
I recommend finding someone who shares your passion. Has a good heart and a kind soul. You want someone who will support you on you artistic journey.
One event that is very inspiring is the Mile of Music downtown Appleton. I love being around all the sights and sounds. People are joyful Musicand happy. This event is very inspiring. I often listen to music from these artists while I work. I love the message they bring to world through their art. I find myself lost in my art while listening. I especially enjoy the music of Sam Burchfield. He is has a pure soul and he brings me peace.
