About DeLaney

For as long as I can remember, my passion has been serving others in any capacity I can. I am an upcoming junior at DeLand High School. I am in the International Baccalaureate Program (a world-renound curriculum that rivals the intensity of college courses). I have a 4.62 GPA taking the hardest courses offered at my school. I have a passion for educating those around me that I would love to share with you or your student! I also have experience with children from working in my church's daycare and many, many summer camps.

In eighth grade I realized that I was good at assisting other students and explaining concepts to them; and I thought I could share that knowledge through tutoring. I didn't officially call it a "business" until this year.

I am a college-bound student who got a 5 on the AP Human Geography exam while maintaining a high A in the class all year, has scored near perfect 5's every year on the Florida State English Assesments, and got a 780/800 in the english section on my first SAT attempt.

Before I attempt to dive into curriculum with a new student; I always try to get to know them. I want to know who they are as a person, their interests, etc. It is much easier to learn from a teacher you can connect with. Then; I will start to talk to them about their areas of struggle and evaluate them. Then I can customize a curriculum for the student to get them where the want to be!

I have worked with general-education students, students who struggle to read at their grade level, students with difficulty focusing, honors students, and those older and younger than me.

There are going to be lots of teachers who are academically qualified; but make sure you find one who you can connect with and enjoy learning from. Unlike usual school, YOU get to pick this teacher.

I am a member of the DeLand Highschool Wind Ensemble Band. This past March, my band performed at our annual Music Performance Asssesment. We attempted grade level 6 pieces, which are the hardest levels available and DeLand High had not attempted one in almost 20 years. Not only did we attempt them, we earned three superiors (the highest ranking with no corrections) and qualified for states.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
As a student, there has been some content I said was "too hard" for me; but I wasn't putting my all into it. My suggestion for any student is to really put their all into everything first and see what still wont stick. Also; analyze their work from school to figure out what the specific areas of struggle are. Instead of saying Algebra, tell me what Algebraic concepts are stumping you.
