About Zara
I am a fiction writer with a degree in Creative Writing and a passion for teaching. I graduated summa cum laude from Bard at Simon's Rock, where I recieved High Honors on my thesis, a collection of short stories. While in school, I worked as a writing tutor for several years and attended multiple cometitive writing workshops. Through these avenues, I was able to accrue a good deal of experience in guiding and providing feedback to students of various ages. I am also a lifelong musician, and between honing my music and my writing over the years I have developed an excellent ear for cadence and rhythm. This skill comes in handy when reviewing anything from poetry and prose to essays and technical writing, and I work hard to instill the same sensitivity in my students.
Anybody can be a good writer. I love to help students realize this about themselves, and to show them that the process of writing-- selecting the best words, arranging these words into fluid sentences, bringing a piece full circle-- can be a challenging, but ultimately rewarding experience. Given adequate tools, encouragement, and a little guidance, an assignment becomes a riddle to be solved, a journey towards clarity and concision that we embark upon together.
Writing can actually be fun! All it takes is the right teacher to show you how. It's always been a pleasure to have the opportunity to be that teacher.
