About Michael
I offer customized, flexible, and engaging English coaching, combining school curriculum with a wealth of new resources and interesting material (like The Moth storytelling, TED Talks, and podcasting).
My work introduces me to people from all over the world, of different ages, with different backgrounds, and different interests. Empowering them to become better English communicators is inspiring.
I started tutoring basic English-as-a-second-language in 2012 as a way of making extra money over the holidays. Even after that client ended his sessions upon his visa expiring, I realized how much I enjoyed the process and practice of working with people to help them become better communicators. This work has been a regular part of my life since then.
I have a Bachelor's degree in English Communications and Political Science, and a Master's degree in Organizational Psychology. I've been privately tutoring since 2012, and I've been volunteer tutoring at an elementary school since 2015.

We have a couple of exploratory sessions of getting to know one another. I'll ask for a writing sample, or a video recording, of their background, their interests, their goals for our work, and their concerns about their English learning and communication. With this profile, I can create an evolving lesson plan that challenges them in tangible and creative ways.
I've worked with children in 5th grade, all the way up to college students. Some students speak English as a second language, and some speak it naturally.
Look for someone who can be adaptive to your needs, and not chained to a curriculum. Structure is necessary, but a good teacher should be ready to respond to an unexpected challenge in quick and creative ways.
I recently discovered some resources for helping voiceover actors, and I've started using them with a client. Even though she has no interest in voiceover work, she loves the material, and it is helping her expand her expressive range.
