About Kim
* Over 30 Years of teaching experience from age 4 to adult, beginners to college music majors.
* Winner of several pedagogy awards
*Frequent adjudicator for Chicago-area music competitions such as ILMEA, AIJB, SAM, CFC, and more
*BM from Northwestern University, MA in Ethnomusicology
*Decades of Professional Performing experience including radio, film, CDs, theatre, orchestra and solo and chamber music work.
* In addition to traditional teaching, I also offer Kinderflute private and group classes for ages 4-8, and 1-on-1 general music classes for ages 3-6 through the "Animal Adventures in Music" program.
It is such a rewarding and exciting task to help "switch on" a passion for music in my students, as well to help them nurture the desire to work hard in order to accomplish their goals. I consider my main job to be "teaching HOW to practice", so that during the other six days of the week that I DON'T see my students they can continue on their pathway of growth through intelligent, thoughtful practice. I love to get them inspired, excited and motivated, and then to sit back and listen to the beautiful music they can make.
I was very advanced at an early age, and was asked to help teach students younger than myself when I was in high school. I love it and have never stopped!

MA in Ethnomusicology with an emphasis in Middle Eastern Music

After a trial lesson where we determine if we are a good fit for each other, I determine what level the student is playing at and where strengths and weakness lie, and inquire about their goals, motivations and learning styles. Then together we develop a plan for ongoing regular lessons.

Kim is very patient and encouraging. I like how she tries to explain things in a way that is both intuitive and scientific. She's also very organized and have a clear lesson plan.
I like the technical expertise of the instructor, Kim. Her background in music education makes learning very accessible. She is patient and encouraging. Kim is a wonderful teacher. I have always wanted to learn playing flute and finally got the chance at my 40's. Kim makes learning a lot of fun. I have wanted to play south asian music and she teaches me how to play them as well.
I was really able to not just learn technique and theory, but also developed a beautiful tone while learning under Kim. I also appreciate how she stresses learning pieces of classical and contemporary nature, as well as encouraging memorization for concerts and participation in competitions and skill examinations.

Details
During the school year, students pay a flat fee at the beginning of each month that spreads out all fees for the year, including weekly lessons, theory, group classes, recitals, and more.
In the summer payment is expected at the beginning of the month for the number of lessons you have scheduled for that month (to accomodate vacations, etc).
