About Luke
Experienced Native French tutor. Business Professional, French language experience in B2B, Software & Technology Sales. AP French Test expert. B.A. in French, concentration French Commercial Studies.
To learn a language you must build from what you are passionate about. My approach to teaching the AP test is to build the "culture générale" or general knowledge, that only a French person would know, enabling the inner French "critique" to come out and wow AP testers monotonous grading task with insight & technique.
I have been a free French tutor since high school. After starting tutoring in college, I was legally not allowed to continue as a tutor as a student athlete due to NCAA bylaws.
B.A. in French, specializing in French Commercial Studies.

My typical process is a basic linguistics test. An innitial 20-30 minute recorded conversation (that I will give to the pupil to keep) to assess the level of the student, what potential gaps they may have in grammar, vocabulary, and idiomatic experessions. This will help me identify the level, and what needs to be addressed first. Why do I do this? I want the pupil to be able to see their progression from a conversational perspective in being able to understand but express their thoughts. Technique must always be accompanied with direct relevant application, to overcome the issues of learning in a classroom.

how does the teacher engage their student? I find the best way to learn a language is to start with what you enjoy. Whether that is soccer, music, science, business, politics, fashion. In this digital age, it is easier than ever to create customized teaching plans based on student's passions. When you're passionate you find new ways to think, to express, and relate- the type of brain activity needed to thoroughly learn a language. The classroom doesn't enable that level of learning. I find that taking a holistic approach to learning a language will yield more than any not immersive method.
