About Abby
I have a B.A. in Music Performance from Jacksonville State University with an emphasis on classical guitar. I teach fingerstyle guitar, flat-picking, and bluegrass style guitar, as well as three-finger bluegrass banjo and bluegrass mandolin. I've been teaching privately since 1996. I've recently branced out to teaching online as well.
In guitar, beginning lessons will involve learning to read basic notes in open position and open chords. More advanced students will learn moveable chords, varied moveable scales, and more intricate lead playing. For those wanting to focus on finger-style guitar, you can focus on learning classical style or finger-style, which involves different repetoire.
I teach bluegrass style banjo, where you'll learn solos to classics like Cripple Creek, New River Train, Foggy Mountain Breakdown, and more. Beyond solos, you'll learn back-up banjo so that you can sit in on music jams and feel comfortable with old time and bluegrass favorites.
In mandolin, you'll learn open and chop chords and basic note reading, focusing on learning melodies of popular fiddle and bluegrass tunes played by many. You'll develop skills to sit in on music jams and hold your own.
