About Abby
I am an experienced NYC public school teacher with 8 years of classroom experience, specializing in kindergarten and 1st grade. I hold degrees from Syracuse University and Hunter College, along with certifications in General Education, Special Education, and Literacy Instruction for Birth - grade 6. I have consistently earned a Highly Effective rating and have a proven track record of helping students make meaningful academic gains.
In addition to classroom teaching, I have worked with students across a range of elementary grade levels through tutoring, delivering strong, measurable results. My instruction is grounded in the Science of Reading, with a focus on phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, and comprehension. I use structured, research-based approaches to provide targeted, individualized support.
What I love most about this work is the students. Their curiosity, growth, and excitement for learning drive everything I do. I take real pride in helping children reach proficiency in reading and writing for academic success and increased confidence. Watching a student begin to see themselves as a capable reader and writer is the most rewarding part of my work.
What sets my tutoring apart is my commitment to making learning both effective and engaging. I tailor each session to meet the unique needs, interests, and goals of every student, helping them build confidence while strengthening foundational literacy skills.
I am currently offering after-school and summer tutoring for elementary students, with a focus on preventing summer learning loss and accelerating reading growth. I also have extensive experience teaching during the pandemic and am highly skilled at delivering engaging, effective instruction both in person and via Zoom.
